AIRTH AC Air Purifier Tested and Proven at SIIC IIT-Kanpur

About Airth

Title

At AIRTH, we are transforming hundreds of lives every day by changing the way you breathe. We believe that clean air is everyone’s right and we are on a mission to create healthy homes and businesses, by protecting you and your loved ones from the dangers of air pollution and disease transmission with our technology and innovation developed at IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore.

Objective

Title

AIRTH aimed to scientifically validate the performance of their AC Air Purifier by testing its ability to reduce:

  • Particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10)
  • Airborne microbial load (bacteria and fungi)
  • Total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs)

To ensure a thorough evaluation, AIRTH partnered with the SIIC lab at IIT Kanpur for independent testing under controlled conditions. The main objective was to showcase the efficiency of the APM in transforming regular split AC units into air purifiers capable of delivering clean and fresh air.

Implementation

Title

The testing was conducted in a laboratory environment at SIIC, IIT Kanpur, following strict protocols to measure pollutant and microbial load reductions.

Test Setup:

  • A room equipped with a split AC was monitored using an AQI (Air Quality Index) monitor and culture media to assess microbial load.
  • Various pollutants, such as smoke from incense sticks, were introduced to simulate real-world conditions.
  • Air quality data (PM2.5, PM10, and TVOCs) and microbial load samples were recorded before and after installing the APM.

Experimental Procedure:

  • Step 1: Baseline Measurement – Initial air quality and microbial load were measured before the installation of the Split AC Air Purifier.
  • Step 2: APM Installation – The AC Air Purifier was integrated into the AC system, and the room’s air quality was measured at intervals of 30 minutes and 1 hour.
  • Step 3: Pollutant Testing – Incense sticks were burned to introduce PM2.5 and PM10 particles, allowing researchers to assess the AC Air Purifier ability to reduce particulate levels and volatile organic compounds.

Split AC Air Purifier

About Product

Title

AIRTH’s Split AC Air Purifier is designed to transform any regular split AC into an air purification system. The APM offers:

  • HEPA Filtration: The HEPA filter removes 99% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns, including dust, allergens, smoke, and bacteria.
  • Plant-Based Germ Deactivation: The filter is coated with a plant-based solution that deactivates germs and bacteria, providing cleaner and healthier air.
  • Energy Efficiency: The APM does not require electricity, offering a cost-effective alternative to standalone air purifiers.
  • Easy Installation: The product can be easily installed on an AC inlet grill without professional assistance, making it highly accessible for everyday use.

Results

Title

1. Reduction in Bacterial Load:

Experiment 1: In a controlled setting without additional pollutants, the bacterial load reduced by 29% after 30 minutes and 47% after 1 hour of APM operation.

Observation: Experiment 2 &
Post Incubation images of Agar Plates

Experiment 2: When testing with a high initial bacterial load, the results showed a reduction of over 98% after 30 minutes and over 99% after 1 hour.

Observation: Experiment 3

2. Reduction in Fungal Load:

Experiment 3: Fungal load was reduced by 75% after 30 minutes and 99.99% after 1 hour of APM operation.

Observation: Experiment 4

3. Reduction in PM2.5 and PM10:

Experiment 4: After simulating indoor air pollution by burning incense sticks, the APM demonstrated a 74% reduction in PM2.5 levels and a 76% reduction in PM10 within just 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Calculation: Experiment 4

4. Reduction in Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs):

Experiment 4: TVOCs were reduced by 57% after 2 hours and 20 minutes of APM installation, further validating the product’s efficiency in improving indoor air quality.

Conclusion

Title

The SIIC lab at IIT Kanpur confirmed that AIRTH’s Air AC Air Purifier significantly reduces particulate matter, bacterial load, and fungal load in indoor environments. The Air AC Air Purifier transforms conventional AC units into powerful air purifiers that not only provide comfort but also ensure a healthier and safer living environment. With no need for additional electricity, this product offers an affordable and sustainable solution to air quality concerns in both residential and commercial spaces.
